Navigating through Falbarton Castle during The High Keep quest in Hogwarts Legacy presents players with a clever environmental puzzle. To progress further into the fortress and assist Natsai Onai, you must locate and trigger the mechanism that lifts the main entrance portcullis. Understanding the proper spell sequence ensures a smooth entry without getting stuck outside the gate.
Reaching the Gatehouse Ramparts
Before you can interact with the main gate mechanism, you need to climb up the battlements on the eastern side of Falbarton Castle. Head past the bridge, scale the walls, and use Depulso on the small lever mechanism to unlock a path forward. Positioning a nearby crate using Wingardium Leviosa and Levioso allows you to reach the higher ledge leading toward the gatehouse interior.
Once on the upper walkway, destroy the wooden planks blocking a small crawlspace using a basic spell cast. Before crawling through, walk around to the side window and use Accio on the interior crate to clear the path inside. Crawling through the gap will bring you directly into the inner gatehouse chamber.
Operating the Gate Mechanism
Inside the gatehouse chamber, you will spot a large spinning mechanism attached to the wall that controls the main gate. Cast Depulso on this mechanism multiple times in quick succession to raise the heavy portcullis completely. Timing is essential, as the gate will slowly slide back down if it is left unlatched.
While the portcullis is fully raised, immediately aim at the exposed ring lock on the wall and cast Accio to drop the safety beam. This action locks the gate securely in place, allowing Natty to enter and join your party safely. Following this walkthrough ensures you do not waste time resetting the mechanism repeatedly.
Rescuing Highwing on the Roof
With the main gate permanently opened, a brief cutscene triggers, showing dark wizards moving Highwing the Hippogriff deeper into the keep. You and Natty must separate again to navigate the upper levels of the ruined castle. Use a combination of Depulso and Wingardium Leviosa on crates below to create makeshift platforms over broken staircases.
Quietly eliminate Poacher Rangers using the Disillusionment charm or engage them directly as you ascend toward the roof. Unlocking final doors with Alohomora grants access to the highest battlements where Highwing is captive. Completing this objective successfully rewards players with the ability to summon and ride flying mounts across the world map.
